چکیده
CASE 1 A 69-year-old male general maintenance labourer attended eye casualty with a history of blurred vision in his left eye. He had been using an electrically driven wire brush at work when a fragment of wire broke off the brush hitting his eye. On examination, the patient had a visual acuity of 6/9 in his right eye and 6/36 in his left. He had a full thickness corneal perforation at the 6 o'clock position, a traumatic cataract, and damage to the iris sphincter. After 48 hours' observation in hospital he was discharged. Three months later he had an uncomplicated extracapsular cataract extraction with posterior chamber intraocular lens implant and achieved a visual acuity of 6/6. Figure 1 shows the track of the foreign body in the lens at presentation.

In response to wire grill brush bristle as an unusual foreign body: Report of two pediatric cases.
We are truly grateful to Dr. Flis and colleagues for sharing their experience treating adult and pediatric patients who have experienced accidental ingestion of wire grill brush bristles. Although we report an additional two adult patients who were treated for the same problem during the past 12 months, none of our patients had bowel perforations by these unassuming and miniscule foreign bodies...
متن کاملCattle Injuries Caused by Ingesting Foreign Objects
FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON, cattle have a tendency to chew and swallow foreign objects. Amon^ those which have been found in their stomachs are pieces of baling wire and barbed wire, bristles from wire brushes, hairpins, hatpins, knitting needles, pocketknives, different kinds of nails including horseshoe and roofing nails, staples, and scraps of various kinds of metals with sharp ends or cutting ...
متن کاملPenetrating eyelid injury: a case report and review of literature
INTRODUCTION In literature, many different types of foreign objects have been found to have caused eye injuries. These objects can range from organic to inorganic matter such as glass, wood, pencil, nails and fishhooks. Once the injury is recognized, removal of the foreign body and technique used in the management of the injury is very important to reduce further ocular damage. This case report...
متن کاملWeC2-1 : Foil Field Lundell Alternator with Rotating Power Electronics
The power requirements of automotive alternators are increasing significantly due to the introduction of new vehicle electrical loads. We aim to improve alternator power density with the use of a foil field winding in the Lundell or claw-pole alternator. Foil field windings are shown to provide higher conductor packing factors than conventional wire wound fields (e.g. 73% as opposed to 64% for ...
متن کاملThe polarization sense in human vision
Unlike humans, numerous animals are differentially sensitive to the vector orientation of linearly polarized light. However as early as 1844 Haidinger noted that weak blue-yellow brushes appear, centered on the fovea, when the sky is observed through a slowly rotating polarizer. Different models have been proposed to try to understand this phenomenon, but the precise mechanism remains unknown a...
